We are a group of young people aged between 12-18, who meet most Saturday’s, at Tovil Community house between 10am and 1pm.

The “project work” is usually carried out for about an hour; discussions, food and games usually follow this.

Our group is organised as follows:

Co-ordinator – This person encourages the group to carry out projects arranged for that day. This is not a ‘boss’ position.

Communications Officer  - This person writes up our meetings every week, they also write up newspaper and magazine articles if relevant.

Treasurer – Keeps a record of the money incomings and outgoings.

Events Co-ordinator – Organises days out among other events.

Health & Safety Officer – Makes sure that everything is safe and hazard free.

We all rotate and take it in turns to do each job.

Projects we have done include:

·         Clearing, Putting up fences and planting vegetables in the community house garden.

·         Helping to improve the gardens of the local elderly residents.

·         Designing and painting the playroom at the community house.

·         Organising day trips to places such as ice skating, bowling amongst other days out.

·         We carried out a survey about the attitudes of people of people our own age, which we presented into graphs.

·         We have taken part in the annual Community house fashion show.

·         We raised all our own funds to support our yearly trips, last year to Disneyland Paris, and the most recent trip was windsurfing in Cornwall in May 2001.

 Other on-going learning activities:

·         Learning to use the fax machine, answerphone, photocopier, and improving our telephone phone manner.

·         Cooking all of our own meals at our meetings.
