OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH LEISURE contact at: otlyouth@lycos.co.uk WHO ARE WE? We are a group of young people aged between 14 and 20 years who belong to Opportunities Through Leisure Community Youth Association or OTL for short. OTL is based in the Malling area of the Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council area of Kent. We meet on a Tuesday evening at the Larkfield Methodist Church Centre and also have a Mobile Youth Centre which visits the villages in the Malling area. The people in the photo are
Amy, Ben, Millie, Donna, Jon, Steve, Alex and Sam and we are the group
from OTL who are taking part in the Cyber -Visions project. We are all
working for our Gold or Silver Duke of Edinburgh's Award and go to
different schools, colleges, or to work.
OTL is a great place to meet new friends and old school friends who
we don't get to see very often. |
WHAT DO WE DO? We are all doing our Bronze,
Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award and our group are also involved
in Peer Training and that is why we are doing this web page. Peer Training
is about a group of us educating other young people about issues that
matter to us as young people. We have recently made a film about Recycling
as part of our Environmental Peer Training work.
You can see some stills from the video on the video
page.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE? As members of OTL we have
done loads! These are some of the things we have done but we have done
much, much more First Gear-
A pre-driver driving course where we learn all types of roadcraft and how
to drive safely before we were old enough to drive. Peer Training
- We have learnt how to educate young people and have run workshops on
Sexual Health, Drugs, Gambling and the Environment.
We are now working for our BTECH in Peer Training. First
Aid - We have done First Aid training and gained our Lifesaver Plus
First Aid Certificates Youth
Links - We have worked with the local Community Health Council and
did a survey to find out young people's views as consumers of the NHS Youth
Forum - We have heen involved in our local Youth Forum and done
various workshops, including taking part in the Youth Parliament. Expeditions -
Expeditions are part of the Duke of Edinburgh's Awards and we thoroughly
enjoy them and they are great for team building, group moral and learning
new skills. This year we have been to the Ashdown Forest and Wales. Duke of Edinburgh's Award - Not everyone at OTL does this but there are a large number who do. For more details about the Award go to the Award's web site www.theaward.org. |
